Dr Frances Kress Welsing, was a Psychiatrist that studied racism. She moved to Germane fresh out of college to study racism at its roots. She realized during her time there that there as a mental component to racism. Welsing sought to help bring about a solution to the mental health problems of the black community by understanding racism. In the process of psychoanalyzing white racism, Welsing also discussed the importance of recognizing racial behaviors and symbols among blacks that were psychologically damaging and which needed to be countered and destroyed. Dr Welsing’s life's work can be studied in her book “The Isis Papers”.

Ida B Wells, was a reporter that returned to the south after the lynchings of 3 of her friends. Wells became one of the nation’s most vocal anti-lynching activists. Wells’s work exposed the lynching of black men to the world stage. Wells' role in the U.S. suffrage movement was inextricably linked to her lifelong crusade against racism, violence and discrimination towards Black Americans. their votes to elect African Americans, regardless of gender, to influential political office. As a prominent Black suffragist, Wells held strong positions against racism, violence and lynching that brought her into conflict with leaders of largely White suffrage organizations.

Fannie Lou Hamer, was a Black activist, community organizer, and a leader in the civil rights movement. She was the co-founder and vice-chair of the Freedom Democratic Party, which she represented at the 1964 Democratic National Convention. Hamer also organized Mississippi's Freedom Summer along with the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC). She was also a co-founder of the National Women's Political Caucus, an organization created to recruit, train, and support black women who wish to seek election to government office.

Shahrazad Ali, is an American author of several books, including a paperback called The Blackman's Guide to Understanding the Blackwoman. The book was controversial bringing "forth community forums, pickets and heated arguments among blacks in many parts" of the US when it was published in 1989. Ali has been a lifelong proponent of the black family unit sticking together.
